stuck between a ec250/300
Hey guys, im ready to buy my next bike.. and im set on a gasser.
Only thing is i dont no whether to go the 250 or the 300, the 300 seems to be the most popular but always described as lazy and a little tame? Im from australia, ride 60% tight single trail and 40% more open fire trails, im only 18 and pretty fit! i love going hard and fast and revvin high, What do you think would suit me better? im looking at around 04/05 also, couple of questions.. When did they got to Vforce reeds? and are they much better? When did they start coming with the dual stage ignition? are parts easy to get online for them? Thanks guys. Phillo |

Get the 250. It sounds like it suits your style more. It will do anything you ask of it. If you decide you don't like it and you still want a 300 just do a head swap down the road.

Seeings how you want to rev try a 250 first and like said befor if you dont like it you can just throw on a 300 top end.

Either one will make you happy. Go with the best deal! I like the 250's, but prefer the extra torque of the 300s.

I got the 300 for more torque, (which it has) but it vibrates too. The 250 would have been plenty for me.

i have found a good condition 2004 ec250,
but it doesn't have the ignition switch of the v force.. reckon they make a huge difference? |

I have an 03 and an 06 250 and honestly the 03 engine is better IMO. I do like the map switch, because it hooks up better and does not spin the rear wheel when it's in the rainy mode, but it's def. not a deal breaker. The V force is not much better than the boysen. You could add carbon petals to the boysen if you wanted to upgrade. That would be a cheap option. The biggest difference between my two bikes is the front forks. The Zokes on the 06 are the tits. WAY better than the WP's. That's the biggie.

Don't dwell on the V-force / Boyseen reed comparison thing as over the long run the Boyseen reeds last longer period. The V-force reeds also have a tendency to fray prematurely as they can rub on the case intake manifold which necessitates even quicker replacement. Especially on the 250 when no reed block spacer is in place (like on the 300.)
As far as the hi-lo ignition thing goes most riders don't need the hi setting ever. It’s more of a testosterone thing. If you go with the 250 and want to mellow the power output install a flywheel weight (about $80USD), especially if you have the motocross MC ignition. If that’s not enough then invest in a G2 cammed throttle assembly (about $90USD). The next step to tame the 250 would be to go with two thick base gaskets (about $8 USD) when you do your first top end. If the price is right pull the trigger on the 250.
