Balance shaft removal.
A lot of road bikes come with balance shafts likewise my 98 Ec
I have heard a lot of people using road bikes on track days and club racing remove the balance shaft gear with no adverse effect on the engine. My question is if i removed the gear off my balance shaft what effect would it have on a Performance. b Engine As later models do not have the shaft I am curious to experiment.

a) It'll rev a little quicker
b) It'll vibrate a little more I often wished my 300 had had a balance shaft! |

Do these characteristics carry over to the newer engines without the balance shaft??
Or have the engines been refined to reduce the vibration? thanks for the reply

When I had my '98 GG 250, I pulled the c/b out.
It was a rip snorting beast then. It did vibrate more, but not to the point where I could not ride it. You will need to use an automotive freeze plug to plug the hole left by the c/b shaft. The newer bikes have a "pork chop" style balancer that's driven off the crank. They are no way near as smooth as the '98 bike. |
