Default Wiring a '13 XC250r

Guys, I am considering purchasing a '13 XC250r (non e start), and would like to know how difficult it would be to get the bike wired for street legal use. The bike has the standard headlight/tail light, but none of the other items needed to pass NY State inspection. Can anyone tell me how difficult it is to get the biked properly wired to accomplish? Also, how do I go about doing this? The other questions is whether it even makes sense to go through the process when an EC250 is (supposedly) already wired? Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Don't know if this will work on your bike. Should be close though.

If you get the e start, the turn signals, running lights and brake lights are all included in the wiring harness. If you use GG oem equipment it is simple plug and play. Each component has a specific connector, so you cannot hook it up incorrectly.GG sells a complete rear finder extension with all the lights. You can order it from motocross center for about 46 euros and it takes 15 minutes to install. Here is a photo of mine.

That seems to be the issue. The bikes I am considering unfortunately are non e-start, and one is an R series bike, that I am told is a stripped down version (wiring wise) of the 250. I am also kind of getting conflicting info on parts availability. Its all very confusing.

Where do You get your GasGas parts from?

I'd check. A lot of places (outside the states), even the kick start R models are wired up for lighting. I would be surprised if GG used a different harness.. more likely they just disconnect the components they don't require.

I added E Start to my 2011 300; it required swapping out the entire wiring harness. The harnesses between kick and e-start are completely different. However, I don't see any issue with someone fabricating a "sub-harness" with a battery and Reg/Rec to run lights. There is plenty of power as all US models got the 2K3 stator.

For what it's worth I have a 2013 300e and tried a number of things that did not work. The Sicass kit is not plug and play for a 2013 (at least the 300). The 2013 300 harness is a stripped down version and does not have plug and play connectivity with the gas gas indicators, horn, or anything else. May work for 2011 but not a 2013. A quick look at your harness should show this. I looked at numerous gas gas harnesses for horn and turn signals listed on motocrosscenter.com parts lists. Those listed don't mate up with the U.S. stripped down harness. I did buy a sub harness thru gofasters that was supposed to work but it didn't match up either. I ended up creating my own sub harness and it wasn't to bad and I am a novice with electrical work. Now mine is an e-start so was able to run from battery. You could buy some of the Sicass parts and modify if your harness is like mine without the plug and play.

Sorry, I should have clarified more Phil. My bike is non e-start, kick only... but came with a horn, lights, indicators, etc. I know its different to the e-start model (which is expected). I was just dubious if they would have a 3rd harness that is purely racing. I believe with my 2010 they did offer some additional wiring to remove the bulk of the wiring and switches.

Fair enough, I wasn't trying to dispute what you stated, just adding clarification for a US e start model. I honestly can't remember if my 2011 had any extra wires for signals or horn prior to swapping the harness, but I am confident that it was AC only, and I had but a single kill button for electrical switches.

dalbertog - Here's an option for you, if it's still available:

I won't say it's that easy to swap the harness and be done, but it will make life easier to determine what goes where, and how everything should line up. I don't believe you NEED the e start to make this work, you would simply have an extra wire or three hanging out.
