Default Gas tank question?

Can anyone please explain to me why I would have a large ball bearing in my gas tank.

From a poorly designed cap possibly?

My 2010 cap fell apart/dissolved in only a couple months....bearing along with other pieces ended up in the tank

It's a fairly new genuine Gasgas Cap. Do they have a bearing in?

Think there is one that works as a non return valve but do not think it would be big

I have checked the one i took off and is the same as the new one. I only replaced it because it had a dodgy seal and leaked when upside down.

Leaking when upside down is the sign of a non-functioning check valve. Ball bearing is used as a check valve. Bingo!

I'm confused, check valve? I will strip and check.

It's a simple stop valve for the cap breather. A ball bearing inside a little plastic holder and blocks off the vent when the bike is upside down. They have been known to fall to bits and the ball bearing rattles around at the bottom of the tank. It sounds like you have this problem.
