Oil leak behind front sprocket when on side stand

Hi,

When I place my bike on the side stand (on which the bike is very very much hanging to the left), there's an oil leak coming from behind the front sprocket.
I've never noticed this, because most of the time I park my bike on a seperate stand/lift.

Now I've read on the forum that a too high oil level might also cause leakage from behind the front sprocket, and he's not leaking on the separate stand, so how do I know my seal is broken or it's caused by my side stand which is leveling the bike way too much to the left?

Check/change the o-rings, there are two on the shaft right behind the sprocket. Take the sprocket off and the busing, you will be able to take the o-rings out with a screwdriver.

Save yourself the trouble of doing it twice replace the O-rings, bushing and seal. It WILL leak again SOON.

Can the seal be changed without splitting the cases ?

Most bikes u jus remove inner clutch cover which isn't too hard

Wrong side....clutch covers are on the right side. CS sprocket on left side...

Remove the chain guard.
Remove the circlip and sprocket.
Pull the bushing/sleeve out.
Pull the outer seal.
Pull 2 x o-rings off the shaft.

Reverse.
2 new o-rings
new seal
new bushing
sprocket on, chain guard on.

5 minute job. Happy days.

You can either drop the transfluid first, or lay the bike on the other side.

Yes, no need to split the cases.

My CS shaft started leaking again after replacing seal, bushing, and O-rings after splitting the cases (twice). Unless it is leaking to the point that it is dripping or throwing oil off of the sprocket, I won't worry about it. Oil leaks often look worse than they are, especially in dusty conditions, AND it functions as a chain lubrication system Also, I change tranny oil every 3 rides and am loosing a negligible amount of oil.

Grease the new seal lips and orings,will help seal initially at least

Great! I'll order these seals and o rings and I'll change them. Never did it before but it should work.

Think I'm going to change the transfluid the same time.
