Air Box Question

Will the air box from an 01 work an an 02? I can't stand now much water gets in the airbox on my 02 and I have the airbox form an 01 laying around. I would gladdly loose the quick open feature for a properly sealed airbox.

Unless you ride in deep water that constantly splashes the sides, I think you will find most of the water gets in from the baffle at the bottom, and the openings at the upper front corners. The door on the '03 was handy for checking the filter for proper seating. Bottom of filter wet? Cut foam rectangle blocks about an inch thick for a slight compression fit in the well over the baffle. This keeps splash water out but will allow any that gets in from the top to drain through. I cut a few and cleaned/oiled/changed them when I did the filter. I taped up the corners and had no problems.

PEB. You might want to look at where the rear fender makes contact with the airbox. There is supposed to be a foam seal between the two and if its missing, in certain conditions water can get scooped up by the rear tire and enter the gap and get sucked into the airbox.

I'm having a similar problem, I'm getting some mud and a little water from the rear handle grips under the seat.
(Not sure what you call them)

It's not really bad, but Ihavn't taken the bioke in really harsh conditions...yet!

Is there a wall between the rear fender and seat that seals off the airbox? It seems like there should be something there to prevent excessive water and debris from gettting into the airbox?

Howie, GMP almost always has a spot on answer. The foam and some duct tape solved most of my issues on the 02. I took the 07 apart and used some silicone to fill any gaps between the pieces, and there were plenty.

Most of the splash that gets in the grab holes runs down the back of the airbox to the well without touching the filter. The splash that gets in the top front corners ends up on the filter. Tape or seal these up with rubber and grip glue. Cut the foam for the well. Replace that Dzus fastener on the door with an M6 bolt and a clip nut so it doesn't pop open and your good to go.

Its wet here too in spring, with some deep crossings. My friend's son has my old '03 EC250 and its still going strong.

Shoe Goo. It's good for all kinds of repairs including, but not limited to air box sealing.
