50mm Conventional Forks - 99 XC

I've asked the question before, and I know its the early days we're talking about, but can any of the historians here ID the brand of the 50mm conventional forks found on the 99 XCs?

There are no branding features on the forks indicating WP or Marzocchi. Compression adjusts through a screw on the cap. There are some stamped numbers, but nothing I can distinguish one way or the other.

How about a picture,,, should be the 50wp extremes I believe.. but not 100% my 97 had the 45mm zokes and I was looking to swap out to the wp 50's for a while back in the day.. never did.. now I have a set of shivers on it.. and a nice coat of dust..

Had a closer look and one leg does compression, the other does rebound. Tried to track this down through the history sticky on the general forum page, and it sounds like the XCs had Zokes while the Six Days had WPs.

Sent pics to Marzocchi to see if they could help ... poor guy's owner's manual told him it had 45s, so that's the seal set he dropped off with them

If it has screws to adjust it's the WP forks. The Big 50mm Zokes like on my 97 KTM have blue adjuster knobs on top for compression and rebound adjustments. Just like the WP Extremes one leg is compression and the other rebound. I also have a set of 50mm WP Extreme forks with the screw adjustments and wish they had the nice Zoke adjusters you can change on the fly if you want.

Both forks are outstanding woods forks but heavy. The WP are more tunable from a valving perspective inside. Almost nothing you can do with the Zokes except different weight oils and springs.

My '99 Gasgas sitting in my garage has the 50mm WP Extremes.

I also didn't know what forks they were until I ordered "fork seals for a 99 gasgas" and found out they were way too small (they were for the zokes). The good thing is, the seals are really easy to find as lots of bikes came with them.

Unthreaded a fork cap and the adjuster screw stayed with the cartridge. I'm leaning toward WP as the manufacturer ...

WP Extremes for sure, almost bought a '99 XC250 with them.
