Quick swingarm/linkage bearing change question
2001 xc300
The rear bearings on the swingarm that connect to the linkage, er, the dogbones I guess (contained in the All Balls linkage kit, not the swingarm kit, just FYI) look like they might seat on something that keeps them spaced apart. I don't see a spacer on the parts diagram, but I'm not sure I see the bearings either... (page 6 on the 2000 ec mc sm partslist pdf) So, my questions are... Do the bearings press straight through for removal, or is there a fixed spacer that prevents that? Is there a sliding spacer? If there is no spacer, is there a trick for setting the bearings at the right depth? Do I worry too much? Thanks for any advice. I'll be setting up my cheapo hydraulic press from Harbor Freight now. -dean |

The bearings slide all the way through.
You need to press the bearings in just enough so the seals would be flush with the outer surface of the link. |

Thanks. Maybe I'll use a stack of washers the same thickness as the seal for the final push to set the depth.

Use o-rings like on the newer bikes instead of seals. Better seal, more durable, and cheaper as well.

The o-rings are far superior to the seals and to convert to the o-rings is a snap.

Sounds like it would be easy to use my new seals and upgrade later (i.e. no change in the depth I'd set the bearing). Thanks! |

They are 3.5 x 21
