Default Tire Size Question

Hi, i just threw on a new tire I had in the garage on my 2011 EC 300. The tire seems seems alot narrower than the stock 140/80/18 stock tire, its 100/80/18. Its an IRC MB5. Am i ok to run this tire. Im a slowish woods rider, lots of climb and roots and mud and such. What are the downsides of this narrow of a tire. I feel a bit silly as I didnt even check the tire size when I bought it last year. I would hate to not be able to utilize this new tire.

Kinda small for a 300. I run a 120 but some guys like the 110. 100 is small.

Well, yeah its not the size you would choose to buy, but M5Bs are a good size tire for their rating(a big 100). GGs used to come with Michelin M12s in 120 size, which ran narrow. Anything looks narrow compared to the stock FIM tires which are very wide. Just run it, if anything it will break loose and spin a little easier, and not last as long. A good exercise in throttle control.

Thanks guys, is that the only downside? More spinning and Im assuming a little less traction/cushion due to smaller sidewall?

Yes, I wouldn't worry about it too much, considering your just trail riding. Keep in mind the rim width is the same for all so the tire profile is correct. M5Bs are pretty tough tires so it might be fine. Just ride it and see, if its gets too loose change it.

Claude do you run 120/80/18? Do you think Seitzco stocks the IRC's?

Sorry for the rookie questions, just wondering if I should buy oem size of 140/80 or is the a better choice for Mclean & Waip.

I run the 130/80 m5b, its the same size as 110/100 metzeler mc4. It should go all right as they hook up well.
