Default Gear

What gear do you all ride with?

I am looking to get some protective gear, I know sooner or later I will end up on my butt, side, back or face.

I got some boots, after two rides I am use to them already. Like the added support for my ankles!

Along with the normal helmet, boots, pants and jersey, I wear some old 661 knee braces, thigh high knee brace socks, a 661 pressure suit under my jersey, and an Atlas neck brace. Sometimes I skip the pressure suit if I'm riding the dunes, but I pretty much always wear the rest of the gear

About once a year I decide to cut the arms off the pressure suit but as soon as I get the scissors close to it I notice all the scuffs and scratches on the shoulders and elbows from crashing and decide to leave them on. Lol!

I would add knee pads, chest protector, and gloves at a minimum...

I like the 661 Knee pads. They are made for MTB, but fit up against the top of my boot quite nicely and have a hard shell under the soft pad. These are what I use:

Hahah! I forgot to mention gloves. For sure! I've started wearing the Deft Family gloves. They are very minimalist but I've stopped getting blisters on my hands.

Ordered my gear:
Pressure suit
Pants "Fly"
Jersey "Fly"
Knee pads "Fly"

Now if I had a bike to ride when they come in the mail.....I'll just sit on the couch in the outfit to make my wife laugh....

Helmet, gloves, jersey, pants, sidi crossfire boots, leatt hard knee and shin armor, fox Titan elbow armor, and leatt HD chest protector. I used to wear a pressure suit but I found it restrictive and overly hot off-road. Some of my crashes I felt were because of this. I found the leatt to be a good compromise between a pressure suit and a standard chest protector.

I ride with a jacket with built in pads. I have a short mesh sport bike version for the summer and a longer touring version for the cooler weather with a zip out liner. Jackets are easy on and off compared to separate gear as well as I need pockets.

How wells do the knee braces help?

Meaning, can you still drop a leg and help with balance and corners? or is it restrictive?

They're not very restrictive with regard to doing what you need to do.
Mainly for us guys that have blown/repaired ACL/MCL or other knee injury.

A lot of guys wear them to protect from those injuries but it is no guarantee. I wore them for a few years and still tore my ACL just putting my foot out and it made contact with a dirt clod after track had been "disced" up.

I rode for nearly 30yrs without them and 4 with the 2nd gen Asterisk brand. Now I have to wear one on the repaired knee. It is a custom made and a standard of the shelf for the good knee. Both are made by CTi/Ossur.
So take it for what its worth.
