mysterious crank

has any one seen a crank from a 2001 xc200 with a primary gear held on by a snap ring? i pulled my crank out recently for a rebuild and was expecting a bolt to be there. according to the microfiche 200's have a bolt while the 250's and 300's have a nut.

That sounds unusual. I recently rebuilt my 200, and found that even amongst those that have been selling and repairing gas gas for a long time, there's not so much knowledge about the 200 engine. I'd start with an email or call to the importer for your country. Out of interest, do you have a photo of the crank ?

Sounds like a home brew fix to me. They should have bolts. Is there a threaded hole for the bolt? If done well it should be fine.

here is a photo. the hole in the end is very small and not threaded.

I wonder if they substituted with a crank from a different brand at one point?

I just came across a Gasgas crank on eBay that apparently is from a 2000 ec200 and it looks like mine.

No worries, my 2000 200 had snap ring although my 1999 200 had bolt. I have owned eight gassers and found many small and some not so small unknown differences.
