Complete engine teardown with pics
Here is a complete engine teardown that was posted on a spanish GasGas website. I posted the link below with a "goggle translation" in english. It is not the best translation, but between the words and excellent pics, it should help folks during an engine teardown. Don't forget there is also the 2006 workshop manual! If you are like me, sometimes seeing nice photos helps a lot.

Warning!
Don't use a mallet to separated the crankcase halves. That is a huge No-No. Instead, either use an actual tool (motion pro makes one) or build yourself one. (If you make yourself one, it's just a piece of steel, two long 6 mm bolts, and a 10mm bolt and nut). See http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/partno/08-0245 for theirs. It isn't hard to extrapolate to see how to build your own. Pictures are nice, but only if it is done correctly. thanks. blitz |

Yeah I was woundering about that. I never split the case with a mallet, its like doing the flywheel with a hammer and hopping it pops off.

Thanks for posting that, very useful information. I have also been reading this site http://www.gti16.com/usr/coco/gg_res...stauracio.html posted by Gsus on TT. I couldn't get the translated version to link, I used Yahoo Babel Fish to translate. I don't want to hijack this thread but has anyone else read it?
In reference to the site I listed. I'm not wanting to start a fire storm or critique anyone's work but, does anyone see an obvious problem with this fix of the crankshaft axial play? The reason I ask is because I have contemplated doing this on my 2000 EC250. I have also read alot of info on the husaberg.org site in regard to using different bearing configurations on some of the 2005-2006 FE650's that were shucking crank bearings. There were lengthy discussions on that site about using roller/roller, ball/ball and roller/ball combinations on the Husaberg cranks. If anyone has an opinion please let me know. Thanks, Phillip |

I have used a little malet every time I have split my cases. Couple big whacks and they come right apart (just kidding about the big whacks). Seriously I have only needed a couple taps and they pulled apart by hand nice and easy.
