another 48 mm Marzocchi question

im having trouble getting my forks dialed in.

im 185 lbs
.46 spring
1/2 turn pfp
14 out on comp
15 out on reb

the trouble im having is that with the current setting it works awesome in the rocks but is horrible in the sandy sections.
so i went in two clicks on the comp and it was like riding a different bike, but this time it was horrible in the rocks and sharp edges but great in the sand.

im not sire of the oil height but i do know it has 5wt oil in them.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

That seems like a lot of spring. Stock was 0.42 for a rider of about your weight.

i did find out that i have 320 cc of oil in the outer chamber.

and my weight is 185 lbs without gear...

do you think a heavy spring would cause the type problems i am having??

Normally stiff would be better in sand, worse in rocks.

I'm 235 and have .48, I would think a 185 lb guy would be more happy with .44.

I'm having some difficulty getting mine set up too, that PFP throws another element to it. I have left mine full out so far.

320cc seems like way to much oil and I think the spring rate is to high. I would try .44 springs with 280cc of oil but that's just my thoughts to get it close

going to try them out tomorrow then head over to the national enduro in okc.

i really need to get the greases cleaned out from my detent becasue i cant feel my clickers at all unless in in the shop in a very quite environment.

i did go up to 340 cc of oil and softened my clickers a bit we will see how that works.

and nambo and bandit may be right i may need to go down a spring rate.

I think most people have found they need to run a lower spring rate with them compared to what they would have with a traditional open chamber fork.

Internally you can adjust the preload on the spring, so I'd look at backing that off to around 3-5mm if its not already. Oil level will help with bottoming to an extent, but at some stage it will noticably start to effect the mid stroke as well in a negative way. Some people find a heavier oil in the outer chamber at a smaller volume helps. Also multiple reports of poorly bled inner chambers from the factory. Getting this set up right will make a world of difference.
