Default Gas Gas EC 200

i am thinking about buying a 2002 Gas Gas EC 200 .i have a few ??? to ask. i look up the specs on hp and its like about only 38hp and say a 2003 rm 125 has say 36?.. i have never road this gas gas yet.i was hoping it had power close to a 250?i wonder if the bike is leaning more towards a 125 and not a 250? or in the middle..? i own a rm125 and a rm250 and there is a big difference..

I can remember when 250 MXers had 36HP....

Its not so much the peak HP but more where that peak HP comes on. The RM125's HP probably hits peak HP at or around 10500rpm to 11500rpm. The GG 200 (this is only a guess) would probably hit its peak HP at 9krpm. And that powerband will be broader than the RM. Someone more familiar with the GG200 can correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah I would imagine there is a big difference between the rm125 and the 250, double the cc's, should be a big difference but you will notice that it doesn't double the HP....

Hope this helps a bit....

We own a Gasgas EC200 and a EC250.

Gasgas is known for their bottom end and is probably the best low end power delivery 2-strokes on the market.

There is a difference between our 200 and 250, but it is depends on how you ride the bike. They can both be ridden a gear high without any issue. The 250 is a bit easier to climb a nasty hill with because it can lug and keep moving without using the clutch. The 200 would require some clutch use on the same nasty hill.

I would say that the 200 is more like a 250 than a 125 in terms of power delivery, but it is not a 250, only a 250 is like a 250

Not sure if this will help but after riding many 250 2 strokes and a few KTM 200's. The KTM 200's have low end about equal to a 250 mx bike like ur RM. However the GasGas 250's I've ridden have much more low end than a 250 jap mx bike. The top end power is more similiar to a 125, but tiny bit more power..as you can see from the hp figures. The difference is the transition isnt as aggressive as a 125....think of ur RM250 bottom end that transitions smoothly into a 125 like (but with a smidge more) power top end. hope that helps. I can say this...i ride a GasGas 300...but have an absolute blast on my buddies KTM200...it has plenty of power. Where as I found YZ125's lacking in many areas...a 200 is very capable.
