Exhaust Spigot Bolts
I'm having a problem with the exhaust spigot bolts coming loose. I'm not sure what the torque rating is for the but they are small like the number plate bolts so I know they can't take too much torque.
I guess I could loc-tite them in, but I will not be able to totally clean the threads in the head. Has any one had this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks. Ed

I believe the LTR steel spigot instructions call for meduim duty locktite. I did not use any because I was worried like you about the threads in the head, but mine have not came loose yet......It's worth a try

Mine came loose this year after I did a top end. I hate stripping threads, so I generally don't use much torque. I used blue loc-tite, and tightened them up a bit more, and they've held fine.
good luck. blitz |

Sounds good guys. I'll clean things up and hit with some blue.

Mine were doing the same thing..until I replaced all 3 bolts w/ a more durable allen head which I could apply a little more torque too. I also think the threads were a little worn out, which caused them to back out due to viabration and being hot and cold...

8 - 10 Nm with loctite. Run a bottoming tap followed by contact cleaner in the holes to clean out the old loctite.

I had the same problem. (thanks M.Baxter for that allen) so when I got home I replaced the screws with ones that were drilled for safety wire. Can never come loose now.
-EDIT- Safety wiring was a P.I.T.A. those washers look much better and allow for bolt growth. -EDIT- Last edited by jefgil123; 08-08-2008 at 10:43 AM. |

Try this. No loc-tite is needed.
http://www.nord-lock.com/default.asp?url=2.16.37 http://www.metricmcc.com/queryIMAS.asp?C=11&DefID=285 I have heard good results from snowmobilers that use them on the y-pipe exhaust bolts.
