Ring Question
Are rings specific piston to piston brand? In other words can I put Wisco rings on an Athena piston?

Paul,
They are specific to brand in most cases. Unless you can positively verify otherwise, stick to the same brand. FWIW, I always do a complete top end, never just rings anymore. I always find the rings fine when the piston is due (hours, not neccessarily wear). |

If I am going through the hassle of pulling the top end apart, I am putting a new piston in as well, not just rings.

Here is the deal. I have a whole new top end and was a little overzealous with a file setting the end gap last night(note to self have beer after sensitive wrenching). The piston is an Athena and the new rings are Wiseco, hopefully that will work. I did a reing last summer and used wiseco rings on a vertex piston with no negative results. As long as they measure the same i would thnk they would work. Anyone else have some thoughts?

I talked to Wiseco directly, they said not to mix them. I know I should have just taken Glens word as fact! I am now looking for Athena rings, any ideas?
