The problem with any article written, is there will be plenty of people that will believe it and not do any research. People in general are sheep and believe what they are told. I dont know about the guys at Dirt Rider being paid off, but I think they have swallowed the Koolaid like many other people have. KTM, Beta, Husky etc. All make really nice bikes. Are they 30 pounds lighter than a GasGas 300EC, I doubt it. I have owned several KTM`s and like stated above, all bikes feel the same being picked up off the ground or carried over a fallen tree. I also read the GasGas article and several others bashing the brand over the years. But having owned other brands and finding out they all have their own issues. I am not scared to buy a GasGas because of weight, parts etc. I am picking up a 2011 300EC next month and I am really excited to piss off my KTM buddies The only thing that I cant explain away, is why my bike sounds like a diesel at idle I will do my own weight test and post pictures of the bike on the scale next month.

KTM has a claimed weight of 229.1 for the 2014 300XC without fuel per their website http://www.ktm.com/us/enduro/300-xc-...l#.Us4FEWRDtUE. All the stuff you listed plus gas only weighs 245?

Gasoline weighs approx. 6.2 pounds per gallon and KTM claims 2.6 gallons. Gas alone is 16lbs for that bike. Are you sure that scale was right ?

That's what you usually get when looking at and riding the Gasser....a little chubby!

More viewing!

Gas Gas - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6v8pKlErSXc
Beta - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AhAQjCJc5I
Ktm - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5cR7eMBZJA

I've watched all 3 with no sound.. Very interesting watching the chasis behaviour between them, and I'm even more interested to see if what they say is anything like what I see

Hahaha! So much better with the volume off and forming your own judgement based on what you see..

All I heard with volume on was ktm ktm ktm.. Interestingly, they note the ktm is skittish and doesn't turn.. but try and justify that thats just a 2 stroke thing.

I was stuck on the weight numbers in the article like everyone else. The conclusion I have come to from all this is this;

I'm not going to let a bunch of left coast writers that have no clue about the type of riding I do dictate the bike I choose based on their reality. When they can show up to Midwest National Enduro and rip, I'll take notice.

The gasser is heavier

The weight of my GasGas is not the limiting factor in holding me back in my racing. I'm the limiting factor. If it ever does, I'm going with never, I'll make the adjustment.

The very first ride on my bike when it was new put a huge smile on my face, fact. My Husky didn't do that until I spent mucho dinero.
