Default Fiberglass pipe guard

Hey Guys,

Thinking of making a pipe guard out of fiber glass.
I read a good thread on thumper talk(link below).
Seems like a good idea, mightn't look as good as a carbon one but way cheaper.
What ye think? Might just try it out on my tm racing 125mx 1st!!!

I think pipe guards are a waste of money, added weight and a false sense of security.

You asked.

I suppose pipes are just something that have to be replaced like piston etc
The joys of 2t

I just made one last weekend. Use fiberglass for the first few layers. Then finish off with a layer of carbon. Looks the same less cost. We rode pretty hard on Sunday with no issues. I also covered the pipe with aluminum foil and layed up on that. If the foil sticks to the epoxy no big deal.

Yep my carbon fibre one looked great from the outside took the guard off to clean the pipe and 2 big dents underneath...

Do you think the carbon layer was necessary or did you put it on to look good? I was thinking of just wrapping the full pipe. Can always cut it off and make another, it will also eliminate the weak points around the hose clamps..

@todd5774 maybe a FG one would protect better!!

It hurts to look at the photo. It's one thing about 2t that really annoys me. Fill it with water, plug it and put it in the freezer!

I used the carbon for strength and looks. Not trying to save a pipe from a big hit. But the stupid falling over on a rock and making a dinger like above.
