EC 125 Supermoto conversion
Hi, Ive got an EC 125 2005. The axle sizes are 25mm front and 20mm rear.
Im converting it to supermoto and I need to get my hands on wheels. I can not find any 25mm and 20mm wheels. However KTM EXC use 26mm and 20mm. In that case I would need to get new bearings at the front to fit a 25mm axle right? And the spacer I would just use my old one. HOWEVER The rear wheel, there is both the break disc and the sprocket. Both of them needs to fit. Please help I rely on you Anders ) |

You are right, the rear wheel can be tricky. Not that the sprocket and disc must line up, but you should preferably end up with the wheel on the bike's centerline as well I have seen pictures of gg bikes with cast wheels, perhaps from a Mito or RS125 (road bike) if I remember correctky. I also semm to remember someone using a Suzuki rear wheel, possibly from a 500 fourstroke twin? If you search the forum, some images may appear. You have several ways forward; -Try to find / buy gg hubs and lace them up. -Or you could lace 17" rims to the hubs you have. -Try to find gg 17" wheels (there are some pair out there). -Bring out your calipers and other measuring gear and find a rear wheel close to what you need, then go on modifying. I haven't done this on a gg, but I have made a pair of PVM magnesium rims fit my supermono. That sure was some hours in the lathe and mill, but the result was worth the effort. My son built a EC300 SM bike, he was lucky to find oem gg wheels locally. Added some isr brakes and got a nice am bike. Sent fra min YAL-L21 via Tapatalk

Thanks a lot Anders! I will make sure to post the final results when those are ready. Weeks or months, well see. I started out here as a beginner and now my engine is done Somehow managed to learn it from youtube

I was thinking of lacing rims to my hubs I have now, but I have heard gasgas has like vice-versa lacing so that wouldnt work?

Yes I did. The wheels linked have axle size 30mm front and 25mm rear. Im gonna ask if the width of the hub and see if its the same. If it is, and I get new wheel bearings so my axles fit, do you think they will work? Sprocket isnt a big deal, since I can buy the sprocket for the bike the wheel is made for. I dont think brake disc is either, since I can make own holes in the disc.

I think 5" is too wide for the rear. With a 5" rim you must have at least 160 width tire (on my Supermono I have just that, BT090 160/60 on a 5" rim) and that will not fin in my GG swingarm. The tyre will hit the swingarm, and the chain will hit the tire.
The OEM wheel kit has a 4.25 rear rim. Perhaps that could tell us something OTOH, the rim is quite affordable. If you buy this one and lace up on an original gg hub, you are done. They also have spokes. As we have discussed, the front is easier, there you could fit almost anything (within reason). There is also an undrilled front rim. Then, you could drill it to the gg lacing pattern. But you'd have to be sure that it is undrilled, and that you know how to drill it

With the 125 engine you dont want to go too large with the wheels and tires. While it may look cool, they will eat your limited power and add weight.
