Is it just me? Rimlocks - any trouble?

Hey folks,

I've got an 05 250EC with DID rims. I finally figured it out ... well maybe. I am ripping the crap out of my tire beads!!! I solved the problem when putting the tires on - it seems I really need to fart around with the rim lock when putting the tire on, and then there is no problem. I struggled big time and wrecked a tire due to not fiddling with the thing. The stock rimlocks seem really finicky, and hard to get set within the tire. I find that if I play around with it, eventually I hear a little pop, and it sneaks itself around the bead. Getting tires off is another story. Still having a hell of a time! Anyone else having this problem? I thought I saw some mention of using some other kind of rimlock. What does everyone use?

I have a new to me 450 and one of the first things I was told is that the stock rimlocks are garbage. I had the shop use a better one they had, not GasGas OEM.

Thanks OldCow - I thought I had heard that before, but I wonder why? They seem a little on the light side, but I figured that was a good thing. I have not had any trouble with them keeping the tires in place (aside from perhaps keeping them in too well, so that you ruin the bead when trying to remove them !)

Is that the general consensus? Time to trash them?

Get the Talon rimlocks. They are light and low profile. They are easier to install.

The Motion Pros have raised edges and are notably more prone to create pinch flats. If you already have the Motion Pros then grind the outer edges back to reduce the likelihood of a pinch flat.

It's funny - I thought the stock rim locks were talons. I don't see a real problem with the motion pros - a great improvement over stock. If you are running a trials tire - I can see that they might cause a problem.

If you don't like the motion pro - I would consider going with honda oem.

Run the Talons. Well worth the money. The beauty of the Talons is that the surface on which the tube rests is smooth...no chafing. The Honda OEMs have a relieved surface which will lead to tube chafing and eventually flats. Because flats suck, I replace any and all of the rimlocks in the fleet with Talons.

I usually run the mousses one of my customers changes out often and doesnt want. Small GG dealers dont make any money, luckily i have another biz to support me.
