Default Newbie question 300 throttle response

Guys
I don't have a clue about 2 strokes, so wondered whether anybody can give me some advice, i have just bought an 07 300, the response off the very first part of the throttle isn't very crisp, it seems to fourstroke and then clear and pull well, any ideas as to how I remedy?
Ta

First things first, take the time to have a peek inside the carb and see whats currently inside it. Pilot, needle and clip pos, and the main. Then list up your elevation and temp.

As everyone else has said pilot &/ needle pos or taper. Chipped reeds will also make things rich off the bottom end so if its only just something thats started I'd consider checking them. You may as well clean the whole carb out when doing this as it'll be out of the bike, and checking your float levels.

Quick question. Does the bike idle? and is the idle adjustment screw wound right in against the carb side (spring all bound up)?

Thanks guys, the bike is new to me (and thinking about it the fella I bought it from said he ran it slightly rich) so has been like this since I've had it, it idles fine no issues there.
Will take a look at the carb.

If it idles well and has good off idle response the first change I'd be making is to lift the clip up 1 position on the needle.

Thanks Jacobi, the needle was in position 3 and I moved it to 2, the bike starts better and the "four stroking on initial throttle opening has improved but not disappeared, I've heard going to pos 1 will make it run too weak but might give it a go just to see what effect it has on a quick spin up the road.

Give it a go. If its the stock needle you will never totally clean up the bottom end. You'll also expect a certain amount of burble on the pilot jet (very small throttle opening) which should clear up as soon as you're on the needle.

Is there an alternative needle which sorts the bottom end?
