I definitely need to get 35mpg as well - I have my carb out yet again - checking reeds while I'm at it. I found a You Tube video that shows someone checking the pilot jet hole - where it was leaking air - which I will check as well. After this I'm out of ideas. |

i change my jet to 170 the air screw was at 3/4 with the 175 ..i turn it up to what seem to be ok at 1 -1/2 turn .. rode for 30 mile and hit reserve and fool 2 plug ..so no better than it was ... riding 2 second gear all day i guess it time to try the 170 or should i just go to the 165 right away ?? also how do you remove the card with all the drive gear ,,it pretty thigh fit in there ...
cheer thanks i start thinking i should had get the 4 stroke instead ,,, |

You don't necessarily need to remove the carb, just loosen the air booth and reed clamps and twist it so you get access to the jets.

Remove the Front chain drive cover - getting to the carb is much easier. - then it's easy to loosen the screws and rotate the carb. I even remove the chain and test ride it without it on, but only riding it around my yard - keeping it out of the dirt.
It almost sounds like you might have a float height issue - so make sure you tilt you bike - it the carb starts leaking gas before around 45 degrees - I would think it's too high - which will cause you to be leaking gas. |

Interesting
When I pulled my carb out last night - I noticed the slide wasn't all the way down, but actually 1/4 of an inch or 6.35mm open.
I backed out the idle screw and the slide didn't move - interesting. The throttle cable was as low as it could go on the top of the carburetor. At the throttle - I found that I had some thread room and was able to drop the slide closed. I even pulled the reed cage out and checked them - they are all closed and in great shape. SO - I'm back to square 1 - Where do I start for Jetting and Needles ? I have a NEDW needle and a complete JD jet kit. I need to get around 30 - 35 mpg - I like the power of my Yamaha wr450 - excellent low end - but completely linear.. It's a 2013 - GasGas 300 motor - keihin 38 PWK carb. |

40/42 NEDW#2or3 172-178 main jet. Number 7 slide, no notch.
If that burns too much fuel, could be float level. I always do that as step 1. Otherwise head mod for the win. Both my gassers would hit reserve around 60kms with the stock needle. They blubbered a lot of idle but had great torque, however would load up and not rev cleanly after a little chug. Head mod, above jetting (or N3EW) and the engine wouldn't feel as punchy off idle, but would pull smoothly and respond very well to clutch. No loading up. Easy 100km before hitting reserve, and that's riding a lot more aggressively and on the pipe than before too. |

Surely the christini by nature would be slightly heavier on fuel anyway?
Since this thread is active and this is related, is this how to measure the 8.5mm float height? when setting the float height is this the measurement i need to get at 8.5mm when the float is just resting on the needle. The pick below is how i adjusted it, it was much lower (ie the measurement shown was larger) but i doubt it would have changed by itself so i am assuming it was set like that and jetted like that http://s182.photobucket.com/user/swa...amd1q.jpg.html
