200 has to be within a lb or two, there are no significant differences. The '07 is a big difference in feel from the older bikes.

The cases start out the same, I think, and are then machined to fit the 200 crank, so I guess they are slightly lighter, plus the smaller piston/head/cylinder. The 200s also come with one rating lighter springs front and rear. Otherwise they are the same.
The 8lb difference could be between an e-start 250/300 v a non e-start 200.

Hummm... well since it's the same weight and I'm not good at waiting (200's won't be out until after the 250/300's) I guess I'll just get the 2012 250. Thanks for the 200 info guys.

I'm thinking of getting a 200. Right now I ride a 300, but it wears on me. However, in the high mountains of Colorado, I don't lack for torque. A friend tells me I'll regret going with a 200. Does anyone have thoughts on how well a 200 would do in the altitudes of 9,000 - 10,500 ft?

I'm 5'8" and 167 lbs.

How does the KTM 200 compare in terms of weight next to the EC200/250? I'm guessing the KTM may be lighter on paper, but does it ride "lighter" or does the GasGas?

I had an older KTM200, but have been around the newer ones. The KTM200 is 125 based, so its smaller and lighter. It also has a more nervous feel, and PDS is well, PDS. As far as it has come, any shortcommings seem to be more noticable on the lighter bikes. I don't know about the new KTM200s, but mine and others had a terrible vibration for a small bore motor.

The GG200s I've experienced were more like tame 250s. 250 based, its heavier, but feels lighter. Same reason why a 300 feels heavier than a 250, power. Less active and nervous than the KTM, more planted. Feels slower, but a lot of this may be perceived.

It must have something to do with the gyro effect of less/more reciprocating mass because my 200 feels way more 125 like. The 200 doesn't remind me of my 250 at all. I should say that my 250 is a Husky but comparing engines only they aren't even close to similar.

If I'm looking for low end grunt in a light weight package should I be looking at the 250 rather than the 200?

I've found a 200 locally but am now having second thoughts..

Any comments and info is appreciated.

the 200/250 and 300 all weigh about the same. for grunt the 300 is the way to go. the 250 and 300 have the same power, it just comes on different. the 250 is more racey, the 300 is more torque - but the 300 can be very racey if you run it in the top of the rev range. the 300 can also be a handful if you tire easily.

the 200 is snappy but has significantly more grunt than a 125.. it's not tiring to ride.

frm re-reading the first post, you mention you loved the kdx220. the gg200 is most similar to that, just a whole bunch more. a bit more grunt, a bit more top end, and whole lot better handling/ergos.

Thanks for the replies.

Wish I could get a chance to ride one of these bikes.. I'm stuck between a '10 KTM 200 XCW, '11 GG 200, or a new '12 WR150.

GG 200 would be at the top of my list but I'm also interested in a light weight package, and from what I've read, the WR and KTM ride lighter. However, being a shorter rider, the GG200 is also appealing as well.
