I have a VW LT35, which is the next size up from the VW Transporter. I think I'm right in saying the LT range of vans have been a joint venture with Mercedes for some years, with the Merc Sprinter and VW LT being more or less the same thing. The 2.8litre turbo diesel seems to do 32 miles to the gallon regardless of how it's driven. It's quite big, and I think you could probably get 5 enduro bikes in the back with a bit of effort. Wasn't the Sprinter/LT sold as a Dodge-Chrysler in the US, sure I saw one on some US TV show ?

Some of the modern medium sized panel vans like the VW Transporter and the Ford Transit are really good bike movers and general use vehicles, with 40+ mpg and car like to drive, but I don't think they are available in the US

We can get Sprinters, yes. But even clapped out junkers are expensive. A friend paid around $11000 for a 2005 I think. Way outta my budget haha.

I would love to do a subaru swap- just too much $ for me. I have a spare engine that i am going to rebuild into a 2.3,cam and head porting, better exhaust, etc. so hopefully about 125-135 hp and 20/22 mpg without the conversion part expense.

My van would be dangerous with that trailer in its current set-up. It is down to 30mph

over the pass now

I'm getting a hitch carrier for my wife's dodge caravan. Any of you guys with hitch haulers use air bags in the rear or is it unnecessary?

Short box was a bad decision but it hauls a bike a lot better than a Corolla I guess..
