Default 1997 ec250 will not crank

Changed all fluids, air filter, spark plug, fuel filter. Will not kick nor jump start. Any ideas? Hasn't been cranked in 8 years probably.

First verify it is getting spark? If so my guess is that the carb is full of varnish from the old gas and you will need to clean out the float bowl and jets.

Yea it's getting spark. I noticed that there was fuel running out of the tubes when I had the gas turned on. I did unscrew the big bolt that is under the carb to let the old gas drain. Is there a diagram or a step by step online that I can follow to clean the bowl and jets? Thanks for your help!

Carb and Choke cleaner will work fine, just pop the bowl off the bottom and spray it into the two jets, you'll be able to see both. Some people like to go all out and disassemble everything, but you could start there.

Chances are it's the Keihin AirStryker 1, 38mm or 36mm carb which you can find all kinds of information about on youtube.

Got it to crank and was running fine but now it wants to bogg down at idle and smokes real bad when given throttle, loses power when given throttle and cuts off. Has fouled the spark plug. Do I need a jet kit? Running 50:1

Have you had the carb apart? Sounds like when my main jet backed out.

It sounds like your pilot jet is plugged.
1. Loosen the carb clamps,
2. rotate the carb top towards you.
3. unscrew the carb top and pull out the slide assembly.
4. wrap it in a paper towel and try to put it where the needle will not get bent.
5. rotate the carb away from you and remover the float bowl via the four bottom screws. After you pull it away you need to lower it and then remove it on an angle as the overflow drain is on an angle between the floats.
6. try not to let the float pivot fall out the float pivot hole.
7. use a flat blade screwdriver to take out the pilot jet(thin long brass jet)
8. use a single strand of a wire brush to clean out the debris from the pilot jet.
9. clean out any other varnish you see while you have it apart.
10 reassemble in reverse order. the float bowl goes back in on the same angle it came out.

Note the float assembly is a little delicate so handle it with care.
