i wouldnt care either way about disks, my brakes work fine..
thered better be an estart 2t, or the savings account set aside to buy a new gg will have to go towards an odd bike, new husaberg or ktm super enduro, maybe an rxv i would hope gg would do their own motor, it could be based on the yami, but legally and technically distinctive. dont most of the newer 250f bikes implode relatively quick, especially the ktms?

I still don't understand the 2t e start thing ....
yeah! yeah! yeah, I know all about e start ... I had a drz with a button and no kicker .... I understand about the convienence in certain situations ... but I still don't see the need on a 300 or less 2t |

Go race the Romaniacs. For extreme enduro e-start is nice. Also for those of us with Rekluse clutches since we can't bump start them (saves time if the bike stalls on a downhill).

Rather than a 250F, I'd rather see a 350F.

I've said this for years now. Why design yourself into a corner based on a displacement class derived from MX? A purpose built 350F (not a bored 250 or sleeved 450) would be better in every way, from engineering to function. As of now, the Yamaha 250F is the most sound motor of the lot. Most of the 250F horror stories are in MX where the bike is ridden on the limiter, and/or jump landings overreving the bike. While a GG motor would be nice, the Yamaha in the GG frame would be nothing to laugh at. An added bonus is that there are parts on every corner, so the parts supply myth suddenly has no weight at all when comparing it to a KTM. To me one of the biggest bummers about e-start is the battery. Heavy, large, and mounted up high. The starter is no big deal as its low and is not rotating mass. I'd like to see some of the new lithium battery technologies applied to this application, small, light, and mounted low in the frame. |

i agree here, i had an xr350 that was one of the most pleasing rides ive ever been on. a tad on the heavy side, but for a 20+ year old bike it was grand. thick, wide comfy seat, tall seat height was perfect for me, i have a 37" inseam. had bottom end all day. i rarely spun the tire on uphill starts. very little top end though.
for me the e start is a 2 part bonus. 1 when im in some thing gooey or deep and trying to start, its hard to stand up and kick without sinking my other foot in mud. 2 it will(logically) be a 12v dc -grd system from the factory, no need for annoying floating ground setups

E-start........ My take is that if GG does it, I hope they bathe the dumb thing in oil like a 4t. The KTM e-start is a disaster. My brother in law has one, and it has failed, and failed again to the point that he has now removed it. I think it's brilliant in practice, but if I'm going to pay the penalty of weight, cost, etc.. I want it reliable. There's nothing like going for the button only to have the engine barely crank.
I also hope if they do e-start they take a look at losing some weight, the Kato is already lighter and that's with the electric start.

Linkage = weight of electric starter. I'll take linkage.
The KTM electric starter on the two-strokes sucks. Doesn't work half the time since it's so underpowered. |

You have to admit, KTM sold a crap load of bikes because of the e-start.
The casual weekend riders are looking for gimmics. |
