Default new to GG

Hello everyone, I just picked up my new 2009 ec300 from Seitzco Motorsports in Okatoks, Alberta, Canada yesterday. just a couple of newbie questions.
1. does this bike have a spark arrester, there are no USFS stampings on it that I have found yet.
2. it came with a bunch of duel sport stuff, signal lights, mirrors, etc., but what is the spare exspansion chamber for and do you guys know what the powerband charactoristics are for that pipe? eg: does it give more bottom to mid or mid to top for the street? I have no plans to ride it on the street.
3. wow, what an "odd" manual...... no jetting chart? any ruff ideas for brass at 2130 feet? I'll be ripping the carb apart today anyways.
4. setting sag, is there already a thread? I'm used to setting up for KTM's.

well with that all said I can't wait for the snow to melt and get to ride it. today i'm just putting the skid plate, bark busters, etc on and tinkering with the set up.Thanks to JC, Ron and the guys at Seitzco and I look forward to any insight you may offer. ~Steve

Steve, welcome to the Gas Gas family. If you have time to ready your bike before next weekend, there's a group gathering and ride scheduled just south of Seattle.

As for the second expansion pipe, if it seems to have more external plumbing connections it's likely the "road" pipe with a catalytic converter element. This piipe is severely choked-off for the dirt. However, the pipe can be cut open, the cat removed along with the other bits of plumbing, and then everything can be rewelded to give you a spare. And that spare should be equivalent to your OEM dirt pipe you have on now.

Enjoy the bike and the forum; there's great stuff and people at this site.

Dale

Hi, Steve! I'm a new guy here, too, just a few days, but I think you've fallen in with a good crowd.

Good links posted by Krasi so be sure to read them thoroughly.

Now the dealer you bought the bike from. I find it very disappointing he did not go over all these very obvious and important issues/questions with you before you left the shop. Without forums like this it's a good way to end up with a very unhappy customer IMO

Welcome to the club We'll keep your back covered

Thanks for the posts everyone, I got some reading to do. As far as the dealer, they are new to GG also, they primarily sell Yamaha so there is some learning for both of us. I might just order a FMF Turbine Core II sa anyways. Come on spring time!!

The stock silencer is nice and quiet, but not spark arrested. The FMF Q Stealth is available for '07 and newer Gas Gas, quiet, and spark legal.

You should be able to get jetting spec's from Dave at GasGas Pacific. He's the Canadian importer located in BC.

Yes Dave's a great guy and very friendly. E-mail is best...answers right away...unless he's riding.

Another good source is Gnarly Parts . Also a great bunch of guys.

Welcome Steve,
I have a new 300 coming in about a week, which apparently is imported with alot of emission control gear on.The dealer is removing it ,rejetting & doing something with the power valve before I get it.Did yours come with the same emisson control? My restricted pipe is being changed as well.
Why do you need a bike ,don't you guys bob sled everywhere?
