Default Value of a Plated Bike

I have made my move to Arizona and I will be plating a 300 GasGas and a 250rr Beta. I have good titles for both and the GasGas was street plated in Missouri. A stop to the local DMV says I have 3 choices to plate. Offroad, 80%Off/20% On, and full on road motorcycle. For my purpose the 80%off/20%on is just fine.

My question is when I come to sell these bikes is their an advantage to the on road plate? In AZ seems via an inspection I could upgrade to the full on road. How about the ability to sell to someone in California

I have personally found that simply having a plate seems to add zero value although I still get the plate for every bike because in Oklahoma it is much easier to get the plate when you first register than try to go back and do it later. Perhaps the situation is different in different areas. I just don't think people in Oklahoma think about riding their dirt bike on the street, and most don't venture out of the area to places that require a plate.

California will not honor either a street plate or an 80/20% off-road plate
from AZ. Unless the new buyer keeps the AZ plate on the bike. But that
opens up a grey area if the new owner does not have an AZ address or an
AZ drivers licence and gets pulled over in CA while on the street.
CA stopped allowing (legal) conversion of off road bikes to street legal
back in Jan 2004.
Hope that helps.

I have two different bikes that are a very grey area and plated in California. It really depends on which DMV you go to and how much they care to look into the bike. I have a friend who has a Beta 300 that has a California plate and I know where you can get another platable Beta 300. There doesnt really seem to be any stead fast rule in California. Plated bikes seem to fetch a higher value in most states, because all the work has already been done.

Agreed, getting an off road bike a street plate in CA does happen, but, rarely.
Often it includes some fraud with the VIN number. I've talked with the guys
that get plates for the older 2-strokes, NSR, TZR, RG and RS Aprilias. They
all run the risk of having the plate revoked if the DMV figures out the
mistake. Get the Feds really pissed off and you might get the bike
confiscated as an illegal importation. They have been doing it with cars for
years.

The bike in my avitar is a 1998 EC250 that I converted into a SuperMoto.
It has had a CA plate since 2000~2001. I have been pulled over 3 times
in the past 14 years or so. Each and every time the officer just wanted to
review my paperwork thinking a 2-stroke was not street legal. Never got
a ticket and ended up spending 10 min or so BS'ing with the cop about
the bike.

Cheers.

The bikes that I had plated in California were done legit. One was my 05 525 mxc that has had a plate for 5 years. I took it to the DMV to get it registered from AZ and they asked me if I wanted a plate. The bike had no lights or anything on it at the time. The second was my Nani Racing 450EXC that was a grey market bike. Same DMV, same thing happened. The third is my buddies 13 500XCW that he had shipped in from a dealer in South Carolina. The bike had a plate there and they gave him a plate in California. The Beta 300`s I know of have the correct Vin number to plate them in California. Thats why I really believe it i depends on which DMV you go to. Because all these bikes are not technically CARB legal.
