Default Ec250 fuel tank inserts

Does anyone know what plastic the fuel tank is made out of on my 2001 ec250.

The screws on my rad shrouds keep coming loose, so I want to bond in some brass inserts, using plastic weld.

Cheers

I have had good luck with cleaning out the old plastic plug and replacing it with one of these wood insert nuts cut down to the proper length. you can install them with a screw and jam nut.

You could also melt a p-tex stick into it and reuse the same screws.

Barbserts may also work, but are expensive. You could also look at Speedserts:

Well I just removed tank and somebody had botched the inserts.

One was made out of piping, another out of a dust cap.

And they also missed with two of the screws and pierced the tank!

Well that sucks, but can you let us know how thick the tank is there? That will help determining the proper size insert for future repairs. Thanks.

I didn't measure it, but I'd estimate the holes where the inserts go are approx 7mm deep, but il measure tomorrow with a vernier.

The thickness of the tank where they missed and screwed into tank is only approx 1.5 to 2mm thick

Thanks, how are you planning to fix the holes where they missed?

I'm not sure yet.

I have ordered some plastic welding rods, and some p-tex.

The previous owner had sealed it with another screw and black RTV.

Any ideas???

I was thinking the p-tex. I'm not sure if it is resistant to gas however.
