On newer bikes, the white wire is the full output wire from the stator. It gives a high peak voltage to a rectifier that changes the AC into DC. This is needed on an estart bike for battery charging purposes.
The yellow wire carries slightly less peak voltage and normally goes to your lighting. It also connects to a regulator that prevents bulb blowing. Typically you would use only the white wire or only the yellow wire. I'm not sure what is done on your vintage machine (2000).

all my lights, trail tech run off the yellow wire with a voltage regulator, i have a AC horn that dont seem to work to good when the lights on or off, but when there on they seem to dim very slightly hardly anything really so was thinking of putting the AC horn on to the white wire if it was a power feed
cant see the stator being bad as the headlight (a 2011 headlight fitted) works perfect even on full beam just very slightly dims when i press the horn |

For something that's only used once in a while it might be worth a try.
