Default cold weather

How many of you are using the the type of grip heaters pictured? I have been considering these. I run them on street bikes,so I know they work good.
Any issues running them with only stator power?no battery.
Along with elephant ears, should keep hands somewhat warm.

Yeah cold weather is a relative deal, it's been -10 here in Colorado springs...no one is out riding right now....LOL Not even me and I ride in the winter.

I layer for trail riding. Real cold I wear my long underwear, Eddie Bauer Flannel pants under my Klim pants. I for go the Sidi boots, and wear some insulated outdoors boot made for winter with a good thick sock. For upper body I wear T-shirt, long sleeve shirt, maybe even another long sleeve sweeter type shirt and the Cortech Jacket and as seen in the video I wear my ski gloves, turtle neck and full face helmet.

Default cold weather gear best options / tricks

You gotta find some tight single track in the snow, that's where the gnarlyness lies!

I'm on my second set of these type of grip warmers on a batteryless bike, and no issuses at all. I got about 2 years out of the first set and then the wires on the throttle side broke off at the grip. For $30 a pair I'm ok with replacing them every couple of years.

For trail riding in the UK, it's about keeping the damp out - it doesn't get as cold over here. Army surplus is a good budget option. Army goretex over socks <?10 (like sealskins, but fraction of the price) Army goretex overtrousers that go over boots and have braces to stop them falling down when riding <?30. Helly Hansen wicking under layers are good, but it rarely gets cold enough to need them. I wear a helly hansen fleece jacket if it's really cold and / or one of those cheap alpinestars waterproof tops if rains a lot (bit sweaty). Carry spare pairs of gloves in case they get soaked. Can you still get those lined scott gloves ? - they're excellent. It's good to carry a warm woollen hat to keep body heat from escaping if you have to stop to repair a bike. Don't dress too warm - I've seen people wearing very heavy winter road bike clothing overheat with the exertion of riding on the trails.

Here in Alabama it doesn't get to the extreme cold a lot of you guys have to deal with.

I have the grip heaters like is pictured and they work great. I hate to have cold hands and feet. With the grip heaters, I can wear normal MX gloves and my hands stay comfy. For my feet, I stick the "Toe Warmers" in each boot and that keeps my toes happy. Body wise, I have a MS Goretex enduro jacket from the 90's that works very well, still....its got sleeve and back vents if it gets too warm.

I use Fox polarpaw, but carry a regular set of gloves for when my hands warm up. This also usually keeps them dry too for the afternoon/evening ride home when you're tired etc...........
