I found a large opening from the airbox to the rear fender, think it is for wiring the rear light but is in a place that let's a lot of water in
My flap seems to have bent slightly open, I think I should flip it around so it seals

Matt, No real issue with the flap not pushing up hard. Mine has a small gap at the front too. The way I see it is that if you submerge it the water pressure coupled with expected forward motion should be enough to keep it shut. My airbox always looks like its been caked in mud and water but never any past the filtero. |

I suppose if a guy insured his bike and used a fire torch it would solve the problem....

Mine has clogged and stuck open several times, and I have cleaned and flipped the flap/reed valve. A trick I used on the older pre '07 airboxes with the baffle in the bottom was to add a block of filter or skid plate foam to the well in the bottom. This prevented all the crud from comming up through the bottom, while allowing any splash water that made it into the aixbox to drain through. Worked well, and would probably work good on the new airbox too, keeping the little flap valve clean.
