Default Is no resistance when kicking in gear possible?

Just got a 2011 bike after my 2003 bike got nicked. I was hoping to find that the later bike would kick in gear as easily as it does in neutral, only to learn it has the same frictional resistance as my old bike had, like the clutch is only disengaging the engine about 90%. Is there anything I can do to get the clutch working like it does in just about every other bike I have owned?

What oil are you running? I'm using Rotella T6 5W40.
I have no trouble starting in gear with the kicker or electric starter ouch the bike is warm.

Most wet clutches have noticeable drag when disengaged.

Adjust the lever for most pull, run a decent oil as suggested (I use Motul Expert, normal Transoil drags). Then its down to basket (inner & outer) condition. I can kick my '07 ok in gear.

I can kick it in gear ok too. But it can mean it is firmer and therefore harder in difficult positions. So I can kick it ok but not as well as when not in gear.

Oil was changed, clutch plates and basket in mint condition. Oil changed in the hydraulic line too. Thinner oil put in the gearbox.

Lever is adjusted.

I do not agree most wet clutches do this.

Can something be done with the push rod?

My 2013 gas gas still has some friction in neutral, it always has had.

Every bike I have ever owned has had more resistance when started in gear. I'm sure it can be minimized, but your spinning clutch disks with a viscous fluid between them. Your gonna have some added drag.

Try some of the recommended oils, there's lots of threads, it makes a difference. I'm not tall so it is important to me

Mine drags noticeably more with cold engine. After 10 minutes ride, this become much better.
