Fun times with a sticky carb!?!
Hey everyone brand new to the board and a GasGas. I just picked up a 97 6Days EC 250 from a buddy and went out for my first ride Sunday. I had cleaned out the carb prior to the ride but mid way through the day the throttle stuck wide open and took me for a fun ride. A friend said this happens on the GG's some times but I was curious what everyone here thought. I checked the carb after the ride and I couldn't find anything. I'm stumped at this point! Unless it's an issue with the spring that inserts into the slide? Thanks in advance.

Josh,
Welcome to this site! I'm glad you did not get hurt. Regarding stuck throttles, I would say GG's are no more prone to it than other bikes. It's the same Keihin carb used other bikes. If your bike has taller handlebars, the stock throttle cable (which is on the shorter side) could be getting pulled accidently. Many riders safety wire the cable where the rubber booty attaches to the throttle housing. This helps prevent the cable from getting pulled if a tree branch catches it. You may also want to inspect the cable thoroughly where it exits the housing and enters the elbow attached to the carb cap. My old cable got corroded here and also frayed. It had the tendency to bind but never got stuck... luckily. I replaced my stock cable with an LTR throttle cable. This is a nice steel braided cable and is a couple inches longer. Great for taller handlebar setups.

FYI I called les today to order a longer cable after having my bike try to take off a few times, he has none in stock and told me they wanted a huge order to make another run of them

Don't route the cable through the ring on the left side frame. Route it outside and use a very loose cable tie to keep it out of the way at full left lock. If you have a damper or computer, route it in front and keep it there, so it can't loop over during fork compression and snag on rebound. Basically make sure it can float but not snag. The stock cable is short on adjustment but shouldn't cause this problem. Fix it before you ride again, it hurts, I know!
