I bought one for a friends 07 250, It's easier to find a cheap yz kick I think that's the main advantage is price.

I'm having the same problem, my boot is getting shredded. Going to order a YZ one this week.

The kickstarter was changed along the way - the older ones were really short and didn't have enough "meat" where the arm met the knuckle when it was folded back - so it would sometimes break down and fold backwards.

They are now longer and stronger - so the difference between a newer GG kicker and the YZ kicker is less.

I only have experience going from the really short old one on '01 to the YZ kicker...

YZ starter knuckle is also closed at the top and sealed at the bottom with an o-ring, so it stays tight longer with less maintenance.

Even better than the YZ250 kicker is the kicker from the late model YZ250F. It is a bit stouter.

Default KTM Kick Starter

I use a KTM 525 (04) kick starter on my 250 ec (07) - no mods required, fits straight on.
