I have a 250EC '08 model and I'm just curious on how you can tell the difference on the CDI since the catalogue states the same part number for ec 250/300 ec200 and mc250. After checking my cdi it seems to have black shrink wrap. Where on the cdi is the shrink wrap located?
Also, in the racing parts catalogue they list a "racing CDI" but it also has the same part number!

Do you think you can cross over Kokusan CDIs from KTMs?

From my recent testing of CDI units on my 2002 XC250, I can tell you that these 2stroke CDI units do not have a "curve". At a specific RPM, they jump to full advance. It may be that the different units jump at a different RPM. I have used a Kokusan KTM CDI on my bike, It has the same wiring harness colors, and works fine. I also have a Kokusan shifter kart CDI, again same wiring harness colors, and it is actually my favorite ignition. All of these CDI units have seven wires, two from the pickup, two from the alternator coil, two to the ignition coil, and one to the kill button.
So yeah, if you can get your hands on a KTM two stroke CDI box, it will work on a Gasgas. Some of the newer ones use a multi pin plug, and I don't know if KTM and Gasgas use the same plug. I intend on finding out. |
