Default 04 ec300, why so blah?

My bro. just got one and she's flat on power. I called Les prior to riding for correct specs..
Very nice guy. Overall set-up was off, i.e. air screw was out 5 turns, with a 40 pilot!
and spensin' comp out 20 and 29.

We'll be checking reeds, packing, compression and PV function. Something is amiss.
I think 26:1 was being used, the plug had baked glob of carbon on side electrode, quite glossy too.
Maybe PV's are sticking...just maybe?

On a moderate hill climb there was no difference between WFO and half
throttle, just braaaaaaa. On the trail there'd be a hint of crackle of opening
PV, but no hit. Clutching only aided super slow tech. sections. Just no hint
of 'coming onto the pipe'. The perfect jungle bike. No G2 throttle needed.

- gearing is 44T!...soon to be 50 or 51
- LTR needle @ 3rd, air 1.5 out, p40 and m175...had a 180
- Doma pipe
- LTR PV Cover
- no reed spacer

Plans are to get head mods and match the cases/cylinder/base gasket.
If more is needed, my bro. will do a carb wing or go with the full RB mods.

Experiences and knowledge are appreciated.

Now over to the spensin' forum. ESR valved?

Assuming low altitude, warm climate & a #7 slide.
Nothing wrong with 180m although 178 is reckoned to be the best. Similarly not much wrong with a 40p. The reason the air was so open is probably because the pilot was rich. There seems to be quite an overlap between pilot and needle on these bikes. Much more than Keihin charts suggest. This makes it difficult to get a clean and smooth bottom end. However as you're not coming on the pipe at all and the jetting looks close enough I reckon something else is wrong. When I have had bad jetting it makes the transitions poor but the top end has always been there.
.
That oil mix does seem far too high. I think you should check compression, reeds and PV. Also strange things like blockages in the pipe or baffle.

In addition to what iancp5 suggested, check the air filter and intake system to make sure it is clean and free of restrictions.

You can check the PV by taking the left PV cover off and see if the PV shaft rotates as the RPM increases.

RB Designs can address this problem...., the carb mod makes the carb much more tunable and lends it self to any riding style and preference. The RB head mod also helps with tuning and cleaning up combustion.

PV functioning, but PV drain hose was zip tied closed!(prev. owner).
The LTR cover was full of fluid.

The issue was reeds and the reeds tortured the RAD valve surface.
Very rough, a rough file was required then a lapping stone.

The fluid drain of course had no affect on the power issue, as the
PV chamber is out of the picture with higher rpm.

Bike rips now, she just keeps pulling.
