Clutch going out?
on my 04 450 I have bled the clutch to practically perfection. It doesn't drag or slip and when pulled in and released it is very smooth.
Now I'm not sure if this is clutch related or not, but I am starting to think it might be. Whenever I shift into another gear I will open throttle and a lot of times the engine will just rev high and its like the back tire doesn't spin fast enough and the rpm's spike. Then as I accelerate more in the gear its like the back tire will finally "catch up" if you know what I mean? Is clutch going out or maybe just the plates? I noticed that once my bike is hooked up to the VDST technoresearch software with cable with the engine started it idles at around 1800 - 2000 RPMS. Is that normal or maybe a cause for it? Also could the fuel trim setting be off and causing it? Thanks for all your thoughts! Crankin04

Do you have a slipper clutch or a normal one?

Sorry but I'm kind of a newb one some of this stuff. It's a hydraulic (I think AJP master cylindar) clutch and I have no idea if it's a slipper or normal one?
It's a 2004 GG FSE 450 and the whole clutch system is stock, if that helps? I was told they started doing the 2005's with the slipper, but not sure if the 2004's weren't.

If it feels like there is no clutch to pull in then its a slipper.
Are you using full synthetic oil? That stuff tends to be so slippery it can cause clutch slip

It does feel like their IS a pull so definentally no slipper. I am as of now using Rotella 5w-40 (blue gallon). I think that's semi-synthetic? Anyways I'm gonna check out my clutch disks tonight to check for where and other issues, cause I'm leaning towards that being the issue.

Clutch Fixed!
Replaced friction plates and steel plates and the springs. Bike is no longer slipping causing engine to rev and run's awesome!
I recommend the DP Clutch Kit around $155 with shipping from oemcycle.com for aftermarket ones that are way better than stock. Happy Riding
