I have been riding trials for awhile now and thinking about upgrading my 04 Scorpa 250 Long Ride sometime in the future. Since I might switch to GasGas for my enduro ride I thought about having a GasGas Trials bike also. I am 5' 11" 220lbs and ride the novice class. What model would suit a novice rider? I was thinking I read that the bigger 300 was easier to ride than the smaller ones? I had an older Scorpa years ago with the bigger Rotax engine and I liked the power of that engine compared to the Yamaha 250 engine that's in my bike now.

I have a beta 200 which is a rear pussy cat. I've heard that the gassers are more snappy on the power delivery. A little tougher to deal with in slick conditions but fun in the dry. I also ride the novice line. If I was going to get a gasser I would go with a 250. However you might want to check out the betas, excellent handling and super smooth power delivery.

Go with Skid. Don't underestimate the 200 Gasser. The 280 and 300 are monsters. I ride expert level and the 300 can get me into trouble. The 250 is a good compromise.

Ive got a Beta 250 REV3 & really enjoy the slightly less snappy power delivery it tends to produce, handling is very similar to the Gassa, attention to detail on the Beta I believe to be streets ahead of the others.

After 2 years with a 2002 280, I just moved on to a 2008 250. Power is much smoother where the less than expert rider needs it for traction. There is a reason europe produces the majority of great riders, and its because most start on 50's to 125's and move up in power as their skills increase.

Alex, if I sounded patronizing I apologize. Lots of people out there with trials bikes in the garage and they never compete.
You coming up for the Hamilton rounds? Sadly I'll be in Japan so no deal for me. I don't know John very well (nor do I know Warren very well), but enough to have a good bitch about a section when kicking rocks around. When the observers back's turned of course. Bloody wet up here today. Tim
