Before you tear into your forks, try cleaning the seals.
Slide the dust boot down. Then take a thin feeler gage (0.0015" or 0.002") and slide it under the fork seal and slide it around circumferentially to wipe out any dirt that may have been stuck under the seal. This trick has worked many times on various fork seals for me.

You can do it with a piece of paper or dollar note, worked for my o7 300.

or a simple piece of film negative

Film negative works best, as the square holes trap dirt and removes it.
BTW. Who has film negatives anymore? |

ill try those ideas. i had a guy say to try 900 grit sand paper too that it smoothes out the edges that may have been damaged by grit, but with my epileptic hands (not really, im just shaky) id probably screw it up....

Holy crap batman.
The snap ring that holds the seal in is missing. Check the other side too. |
