Fork oil and height

I just bought a nice low hour 2000 250 MC with WP 43mm forks to have a winter time toy to play with. I am interested in getting a valving kit to make them more plush for woods riding, but for this thread I am interested in the amount of oil to use since I am going to service them. I plan to use 5 weight oil and I would like to know if anyone has the oil height information for these forks.

They feel very soft, but they seem harsh on small chop and they deflect pretty bad from side to side. After coming home from the first trip out, I discovered that one of the fork bleeder valves was leaking. That could be the deflection problem answered, but I won't know until I can take it back out. I replaced both fork bleeder valves today.

I'm 200 lbs. I like mine set at 115 mm oil level ,one stock spring and one .44 both at 2mm preload.12 comp ,8 rebound from fully closed. of course this is a subjective thing.

I haven't taken these apart yet. How do you set the pre-load. My KTM WPs have plastic spacers....do these 43mm forks have the same plastic spacers? If not, how do you set the preload?

They are the same forks with the exception of the foot/axel clamps. If you want to valve them yourself, there is a lot of info on KTMTalk, as everyone is trying to improve the fork.

For the shock, LTR can set it up perfect for the woods for $140 (forks also $140).

What springs are on the bike? What do you weigh and what is your ability? Someone here may have a springs to trade.

This bike is just a few bucks away from a great woods ride.

Next time you ride the bike, back the shock preload way off to around 8-10mm. See if it feels better including the fork even with the MX valving.
