I e-mailed Twin Air about the availability of their aluminum air filter cage.



Here's their response....

"We can get the kit if you want - # 158041c. MSRP is 124.95. It will take @ 4 weeks until we receive the kit."


This kit comes with the air filter, so it is not a bad price.
The stock set up is an accident waiting to happen.

I've been thinking about this for awhile now. The stock setup is OK, IF your VERY carefull in checking that the filer cage is fully seated with the cage capturing the foam rim of the filter against the inner edge of the airboot lip. It seals different than a conventional filter. The inconsistancies in fit are in the airboot sealing surface, as its soft and not a precise part. When checking fit on install, and removing the filter for cleaning, its clear that the filter foam ring is compressed unevenly on the flat surface of the airboot lip.

What I might do is make an alumimum or stainless plate to mount over the airboot lip, so the filter has a more uniform and rigid surface to seal against. The filter would then seal on the inner edge of the plate as it does stock, but also have a nice flat sealing area on the plate.

Yup.
The pins on the stock cage are too short.
I usually try to twist the filter after it is installed to be sure the pins are lined up with the air intake boot.

Hondas had major problems with their air filter alignment set up. Twin Air made tons of money on their kits for Hondas.

I thought this at first too, but install the cage without the fliter and you will see that longer pins alone will not work. You will also see how uneven the airboot lip is. The pins on the right side almost touch the inner airboot. The foam rim compresses down quite a bit and you don't loose much. If the pins were to bottom out on the airboots right side, the cage would not seat all the way and it would be worse. A lot of $$ for half a fix IMO. The guys at Town & Country just used pre '07 parts to modify the airbox.
