Have you used Microsoft's update feature to make sure both are at current revision levels?
I checked my updates and automatic updating is turned on and appears to be up to date. Microsoft sure issues a lot of patches and fixes.

Once again this is the only website that gives me problems. Could it be bandwidth related? It seems to be worse in the evening.

This website runs off a linux box "in my garage". Search engines can really hammer the server when they scan through all the photos in the photo gallery....

I will be upgrading the forum software soon and will also try configuring the web server and sql server for better performance. Sorry for the glitches/delays - the downside of having low cost web hosting with no bandwidth charges. It might be time to move the site off to a commercial server with more bandwidth - I'll do some tweaking and check back.

I can vote for Firefox or Opera web browsers.
Both load this site without any hiccups.

Check your firewall settings when you are having issues, even disable the firewall for a brief time to see if that is the issue.

Both Firefox or Opera web browsers are free and faster the IE.

Another thing to note is that the new phishing prevention in IE really slows it down alot. You can disable it in IE in the internet options...

Remember, when pricing an Apple computer, you get 3 machines in one. It runs the Mac OS and Unix in native mode and using Boot Camp you can install XP or Vista and run them *ahem* faster than you could on a Windows only machine. No extras - monitor, keyboard and mouse are all included. Don't get me started on the superiority of the iLife apps included with the machines. Oh, yeah. I almost forgot... Unlike many Windows machines, the Apples work. They're like the Gas Gas of computers.

I think I found the problem - we were getting hammered by a denial of service attack from someone masquerading as a yahoo webcrawler - I blocked access and set up the robots.txt to disallow all crawlers for a bit until I figure out who the bad guys are and deny them access to the site.

In terms of response and performance, things should be much better now. Please give me some feedback as to what you guys are seeing on your side.

I see that some web crawlers take 24-48 hours to re-read the control file (robots.txt) that tells them to "go away" - so expect things to slowly improve over the next two days...
