I haven't tried it personally, but remember reading a thread (think it was on here) about using Totally Awesome Cleaner from the dollar store. It might sound goofy, but the guys truly swore by it - said it was cheap and incredibly good at cleaning.

Not sure if it's available in the UK, but it might be worth checking

Great topic, I'm down to my last bottle of cleaner my supplier can get me.
I'll try some of these.
Thanks, this site is full of useful info!

I use a special industrial presoak dirt release wash. It's the best and cheapest cleaner I've ever used & I can use it on a ton of other things than just the bike.
Dilute it in a weedsprayer and spray it on, the dirt comes right off with just a garden hose & sometimes a quick swipe with a soft bristled brush.
Works out to a few pennies per wash & very effective. Great for lazy guys like myself & no power washer needed. Doesn't hurt the lawn either.

Here's a cheesy YouTube vid: http://youtu.be/Llel8T4PeKU

After a couple years of testing, I now wholesale it to friends, acquaintances etc.,
If anyone is in Southwestern ON and wants to try some, let me know.....

I have been in the cleaning business most of my life . My system you cannot get anywere else it is step 1 a light high pressure acid followed by step 2a light high pressure alkaline cleaner also at high pressure . The chemical reaction between the different ph creates a lifting effect and is a brushless system . I build and give these systems away for no charge , all you have to do is buy the soap from me . A good customer will use 250 gallons a week . I will have to say that a good alkaline with byutil of about 6% and a good carrier will work fine . As far as keeping your metal nice wheel brightener sold in auto store should work fine . I also start my bike after washing it in case water went down the pipe . I try to spay oil on the spokes nipples and on the pivot points after I wash the bike. Keep her clean in the New Year n She will always get looks for sure . One thing about Gasgas bike they sure are nice looking !

It was just a bit dirty that day when I did the vid. Usually it comes home the same colour as the muck & slop I was riding in.........

The nice thing about this soap is that there's no special equipment needed, or hard work & it's really cheap compared to other common detergents. I often get asked by people how I get my bike so clean.
It's also nice as it keeps power washers away from your bike, which are bad news anyways.
