Default 06 EC300 Question

I wired up an aftermarket headlight & LED tail light to my 2006 EC300.

No go on the headlight at all but the tail light works ONLY with the brake applied - nothing constant.

I wired in this fashion:

Violet wires - HOT
Yellow w/ green stripe - Ground
White wire (tail only) - Brake switch

Anyone have this year bike and can comment on whether the above seems appropriate before I break her down and rewire or start chasing with a voltmeter?

TIA!

This schematic should help and seems to cover a few years.

Thanks, guys.

It appears that a solid yellow wire is the AC power but the yellow with green stripe is ground. That is how I have it wired up. Odd that the white wire would allow the brake light to function if in fact I did not have direct power going to it via the Violet wire. The white wire should act as an interruption in the circuit and increase power during time of braking. It just so happens that the only time the tail light works is when I hit the brakes.

The original wiring is set up for incandescent bulbs. When you add LED lighting you need to be sure the lights themselves are configured correctly. This means you need a "3 wire" tail light. One wire for brake, one wire for tail and one wire for ground. You also need a "3 wire" headlamp (HI + LO + ground).

Yellow (AC power) goes directly to the "tail" wire. Yellow (AC power) goes to the brake light switch and out to the "brake" wire. Yellow/green is ground (connected to the black wire that is your engine/frame ground).

There is no "increase of power". There only one power source directed to different functions. Based on the diagram that was posted, you need:

Yellow to violet (for tail).
Yellow to brake light switch to white (for brake)
Black to yellow/green (ground).

(first colour = chassis wiring, second colour = tail/brake light wiring)

Thanks, Neil. If that is the case I have the brake light wired properly. Seems as if my contstant power (yellow to violet) is not getting juice then as it will only go on with the brake applied. Need to trace that out.

The front light is non-LED and the original plug only had two wires. Violet and yellow/green so I just need to trace them for power I suppose.
