Default Tank cracked at mounting point

On my new '10 EC300 the tank mounting point on top near the steering head has cracked. It doesn't leak fuel as the plastic is a flat "tab" at that point.

The bolt has a small spacer under it to keep someone from tightening it all the way down hopefully preventing it from being smashed/cracked but apparently this didn't work as it was supposed to.

I put a larger washer over it as it seems to be getting a little worse. I hope I don't have to buy a new tank. Are cracks in this area common?

I don't know if it's common, but, that area holds no fuel. I cut one way back yo fit a steering damper on an older bike.

Default tank leaking

Reviving the old! This is exactly where my tank is leaking after roughly 6 hrs. The shoulder washer was not tall enough, so when tightening I believe it caused failure. And on my 11' there is fuel in the very thin front section, and it now leaks all over.

Default fuel tank leak

Got my new tank installed, had a bit of issue with the petcock mounting. Threaded inserts incorrectly spaced a couple mm- opened up the petcock mount a bit.
Went for first ride and... Now it leaks through the cap! WTF . I am getting tired of these small/avoidable problems. There are hardly any cap threads at the front side of the opening.
I am going to get another tank- this is not acceptable on a new bike.
Also I am selling this bike if I get the right offer-will post ad later in correct location- sick of the little hassles popping up.

My tank cracked in the exact same place. I put the larger washer on also-like you did.
I never had a problem with it other than cosmetic. My GG gas cap leaked tho, and I noticed a small leak at the knob attachment that holds the seat in place. I got a Clark tank that holds 1/2 gal more fuel which was easier to install than this stock one AND enabled me to complete a whole race without stopping for a splash at some point.
Im still lovin my GG!

Default fuel leak

I am hoping a different gas cap will stop the leaking. Since it has happened to others, there is hope that I won't need to change the tank.

Was venting a bit earlier today, not sure about giving up on it yet. But..
