Default broken subframe

Hi guys, I crashed & burned hard a few weeks ago practicing for the harescramble season on my 03 EC 200.
I noticed today after putting fresh tires & air filter that my left upper subframe is snapped (right upper corner where airbox is located, before it connects to the frame).
i looked to see if the subframe bolts on like jap bikes and it looks welded solid where it connects to the upper part of the frame?

Question, is the subframe made of mild steel with just a crome coating? and can normal welding rod (like 7018) work to weld it back up?
Or is there another option?
Thanks

The 03 sub frames are made from aluminum.

And they DO bolt on, pull the seat to see. The airbox is attached to the subframe. I replaced my kids with a steel '98 KX250 subframe with very little modification.

You can do that, or Tig weld it. If your running that alloy fender support loop get rid of it! Its a big lever that causes the subframe to bend/break in a crash.

Yep, it bolts on

That is a good idea about buying a subframe that can bolt up & work. I checked ebay and there is a subframe off a 01 EC200 but is mega $$$ vs. a 98 KX.
What mods did u have to do the the KX sub? move bolt holes for seat, fender, muffler, etc? or was it "almost" bolt on & go?

There is a guy in town that will/does weld aluminum, but I'm worried it would just snap again..hmmmm

I have a 450 subframe that will bolt up with no modifications. It is almost brand new. But the exhaust tabs would need to be moved. 100.00 plus actual shipping.

I fixed one by getting a snap-on chisel and jambing into the tube.
it was tricky but it was a quick repair on the fly.
still holding up after two years

It's been a few years but I think all I had to do was grind off the tack-welded nuts that held the KX seat to the subframe. On the GG the seat frame has the nuts. Simple mod.
