Default hole in engine?????

just dropped the gear oil on the ec250, a 09.....
inbetween the gear drain bolt and the crank drain bolt, i have found a drilled hole that appears to be tapped, approx 6mm but maybe a fine thread or somthing as a standard m6 wont quite go in....
WHAT is this hole? where does it go? should it have a bolt in it?
bike is running great, no oil leaking or anything, just dont want dirt and water getting into my engine.
