Default 2010 EC250 Recommendations

Hello all,

I ride at elevations between 1400-1900 (just verified online), the bike seemed to run ok but I only got to ride it 45 minutes before my bicep injury. I ride all trails, a mix of tight singletrack to open quad trails. I don't race but the guys I ride with do so they keep a decent pace, no leisurely putting around is what I mean.

Here is the current jetting according to paperwork that came with the bike. I haven't pulled the carb or plug yet. Since I have some down time I figured I'd ask for opinions.

AS-1 carb
Mixture screw 1 turn out
CEK.3 needle
42 Pilot
178 Main

The original owner who did the work lives in Md and I don't know the elevation there and I don't know what stock jetting is for this bike.

i think you are close... when i got my 07 250 it came from pretty much sea level.. as1
cek center clip
180 main
45 pilot

i am about 3900 ft here..(our air tho is horrible and can get to a corrected altitude of about 5k )
165 main
40 pilot
and playing around with needles.. a cek works fine here

this bike has had the rb carb mod.. i think it would run with anything in it..

Thanks man. I have a bunch of Keihin PWK jets so if I have to make some changes I can. But I don't have any needles, that's one thing I never really messed with. I want to be better at that so that's why I was hoping for some opinions on the current jetting.

F or G diameter needles are what you want to be playing with.

How much do you want to spend?

I'd suggest an NECF and NEDG, and an N3EG for starters. That gives you a couple diameters, and 2 different taper profiles to play with. The NECF and NEDG are the same profile half a clip different, and one size different on the straight section. That should give you loads to play with.

GMP knows this carb, and the 250 engine! He'd be the man to ask. He likes the JD Blue, but also has said positive things about the Suzuki needles (NEDx/NECx).

I completely missed your response Jake. Thanks!

When I was cleaning the bike (lots of down time with my healing bicep) it seems to have a lot of oil out the exhaust, so something is rich it seems.

I'll look into those needles and see if I can source them cheaper than local dealers.

Don't judge jetting by spooge, said it many times. A perfectly jetted bike with a Stealth will drool like a pig. While that CEK needle is OK sometimes, I think (I know)you have low to mid power to gain by going with the JD Blue and/or NECF/NEDF. From my experience, the 250s go a little flat in the lower mid with the leaner taper C series, which is why they feel smooth. NECF is a little cleaner and smoother than the JD, JD is where its at for racing. General rule I have learned with the 250s is do not try and make it super clean and perfect, because you will sacrifice the low end grunt, and that comes in handy in the PA mountains. Plus, on a 250 you don't spend a lot of time on the bottom anyway, unlike the 300s. Thats why the bigger the motor the more of a PIA jetting is.

Thanks for the advice. My bike has the Turbine Core 2 not the Stealth but I'll heed your advice. In the past when I had my bikes jetted cleanly "spooge" was minimized out of the silencer as long as I kept the packing changed a couple times a year.

I am definitely going to look into those needles. I am not racing (this year anyway) and in the rocky/rutted/often slimy tight Pa trails I like smooth power.

I race in PA often, and ride with Cruiser there too, in all weather. The JD Blue will give more absolute grunty power off the bottom, but with more of a rush into the mid. This should be no issue for you considering your bike has the heavy 2K-3 ignition. Its totally controllable even with a naked 2K-2 (small flywheel, no weight). The NECF/NEDF are a little leaner in the low/mid area so smoother. Nice thing, if you buy both, is you have half clip adjustment capabiity for fine tuning. I got mine from Babbits online. While an accessory needle with a Suzuki part #, the F dia are not that common as they are too rich for the new carbs and had to be special ordered. Took awhile so start now.

Both work good, just a matter of preference.

Second that! The suzi needles shouldn't cost much more than $13 a piece. I'd also suggest getting the half clip variance for fine tuning.
