Well we have weighed tons of bikes. You'd be surprised how heavy they actually are. This is 5 lbs heavier than a 2005 kx250. Keep in mind that full of fuel with guards etc. We had 3 bikes on this ride and we weighed them all. 2007 WR 450 came in at 273 and 2015 yz250fx came in at 253. The interesting part is the yz while riding felt heavier. We all switched bikes to get the feel and all 3 experienced riders said the same. The GG felt the lightest while riding. I hated the 450 for the type of riding we were doing yesterday. I only put a couple miles on it before before i swapped out. But it's a great dual sport

Back to needing a skid plate. My homemade one didn't last. Oh well was worth a try.

I am thinking I'll buy an aluminum one for now.

But I may also try my hand at carbon fiber. I'll just need to make a mold. Other than that not much more difficult than fiberglass. I've built a couple of fiberglass canoes so this much smaller.

Anyone have any suggestions for a skid plate?

I bought an aluminum skid plate. However I'm using it to make a mold. Going to try my hand at carbon fiber.

Geez that was a year ago. I have the mold and carbon fiber, just no time at this point.

She has run hot the last 2 trips. Never has before. I did whack the pipe hard enough that it was up against the rad on one side and a coolant hose on the other. So I figured that was it. I put a new pipe on and topped off the coolant. It still leaked coolant out the overflow hose. And it was cold and rainy all day.

I made one out of a small piece of uhmw and welded 2 tabs by the foot pegs and used the stock t bar front mount. Works great and slicker than shit

Try a new radiator cap. I have discovered this solution on three consecutive times with the same condition. Runs hot, bubbles out of the overflow, but never really "boils over." New cap, no problems. And they all had this condition within the last six months. Very strange. A tell-tale sign is looking at the seal on the rad cap, to look for an uneven mark on the rubber. But usually a swap from one bike to the other will help identify the problem/solution.

Good call. Doesn’t a KTM cap work? I don’t need a 1.8bar cap because realistically the 1.1 doesn’t over heat.
